Image transfer using freezer paper

So the Sunless Sea has been consuming both me and darling Aaron. We eat, sleep, dream, nightmare about our zee-faring adventures!

We managed to take a small break from it on Monday, when we hit Lidl. Every now and then, Lidl offers items that we both covet. On this particular Monday, it was offering a cross cut saw with a laser line for very reasonable money.

When we sold our house and moved to the lovely place we have now, we made a point of selling off pretty much all of our DIY stuff - saws, sanders, planes - we kept some screwdrivers, hammers and some small power tools. Never again would we have to stand, huddled under an umbrella in the lashing rain, cutting pieces of wood to size.

Suckers. Both of us.

So now we have the cross cut. And some wood. And some dowelling. Oh and a tonne of other things. And Aaron has been cutting like a demon!

This is a lovely piece of Bordeaux floorboard we picked up - we picked up a full 5′ length, and he cut it down for me, obvs.

And suggested it would be an ok coaster.

Oooh. Coaster. Coast. ZeeZide!

Yup. I now have a coaster with a transfer from my favourite time sink!

This was as easy as pie. I found the image which makes my eye twitch and printed it out onto the shiny side of some freezer paper, using my trusty ink jet.

This gives you a damp image on some pretty slippy plastic paper. Which is then put, ink side down on the piece of wood. And then I rubbed it all over using a spoon and then my handy-dandy brayer.

Yes, there is a thumb print. Yes, I could have done it straighter. But, gosh darn it all to butter, I am thrilled with it.

I’m planning lots of practice on all the bits of wood Aaron will keep on cutting!
